Kissa Tanto (263 East Pender Street)—a 1960s Tokyo jazz café-inspired eatery—has been named Canada’s Best New Restaurant by Air Canada’s enRoute magazine.

This Japanese-Italian culinary destination is the brainchild of Tannis Ling and Joël Watanabe, who are no strangers to appearing on the awards list. The team’s French-Chinese brasserie Bao Bei placed second back in 2010.

Besides its food, Kissa Tanto is known for its vintage glamour décor that features moody jewel tones and delicate textiles, which draw crowds in every evening.

Another Vancouver contender that placed in the enRoute top 10 list is Fraserhood’s Savio Volpe, the osteria that’s been a hit in town ever since it opened.
