3:01 Pick Me Up: The Tragically Hip

    1 of 2 2 of 2

Let’s face it: 3 p.m. is the cruellest time of the workday. The morning latte has worn off, and the post-lunch crash has you staggering around like an extra from a George A. Romero flick. That’s why, each weekday at 3:01 p.m., we present you with a video hand-picked to kick-start your heart.

Today’s offering: "Locked in the Trunk of a Car" is arguably the best-ever song from the best-ever proudly-Canadian band. The Hip weren't afraid to mix bar-brand commerce with high-art, riding a completely original formula to hockey-rink-headlining status.

All, we might add, without ever making much of a dent in America, which, believe it or not, used to be an obsession on this side of the border. We no longer need affirmation from our neighbours to the south, for which you can largely thank the Hip for. They are a major reason why we now validate our own in Canada. Now hop on iTunes and download Road Apples and Fully Completely. Or better yet, see if you can find them on vinyl on eBay.

If you bleed maple syrup then you know every word to this. Enjoy the show tonight.
