The Straight showcases Vancouver artists working with different mediums.

Who are you? Glass artist Jeff Burnette and urban oil painter Leanne Christie.

Where is your studio? 233 Main Street, opposite the Provincial Courthouse between Powell and Cordova.

What’s your medium? Jeff Burnette is a glass artist known for his intricate hand-blown ray guns and custom lighting. He has been working in hot glass since 1979. In this time, Jeff has developed his own unique line of work, including a stunning line of stemware, larger works like the Incalmo Vessel series, and the funky and unique “Raygunz.”

Leanne Christie is a popular urban landscape oil painter who specializes in streetscapes. Her paintings have become easily identifiable by their powerful use of white, the myriad of greys, the vigorous brushwork which dances on the edge of abstraction and their exploration of the urban streetscape as the catalyst of culture. Christie’s daily 24km bicycle commute from her home in Coquitlam to her Downtown Eastside studio gives her an intimate kinship with the flow of the urban street.

What's new in the studio and why visit?

Christie is developing the large oil paintings which resonate with the feeling of the Viaducts from our human perspective as these monumental structures die. These 'Death Mask' paintings sit alongside Christie's intimate and collectible 10” x 10” oil paintings of neighbourhood streets and views. Burnette's studio is a treasure trove of unique, blown glass works. Burnette's unusual intricate glass RayGunz are showcased in the studio alongside his beautiful goblets, custom lights and glass hearts.
