Students of modern history have read about the many street clashes between European fascists and antifascists in the 1920s and 1930s.

Get ready for the possibility of this also happening in 21st-century America.

The antiracist anarchist website It's Going Down! has reported that posters have gone up in Berkeley, California, declaring that their progressive city is an "antifascist zone". According to the messages, the united colours of one working class are prepared to kick Nazi ass.

It comes as the Calexit movement is gaining momentum for California to separate from the United States. It received a big push in the wake of Republican Donald Trump winning the Electoral College but losing the popular vote for president.

A group called Yes California plans to put the issue on the state ballot in 2018, asking voters if they would be willing to amend the California constitution. It would strike the phrase that California is “an inseparable part of the United States of America, and the United States Constitution is the supreme law of the land”.

Californians overwhelmingly preferred Hillary Clinton. She received 8,5204,069 votes, compared to just 4,362,878 for Trump.
