While TV show host Jimmy Kimmel may have been tapped to host some obscure event called the 2017 Academy Awards, Canadians are well aware that the more anticipated award show of the year is actually the 2017 Canadian Screen Awards.

To further fuel the frenzy, the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television announced today (December 15) that Toronto-born screen star Howie Mandel will be the host of the 2017 Canadian Screen Awards.

"I don't only look at it as honouring the best in Canadian entertainment, but more importantly, I am so excited about the free trip home!” Mandel said in a news release.

He has not yet released any statement about how much better Ricky Gervais would've been as host of the 2017 Oscars.

The Canadian Screen Awards, which honour the best in Canadian film and TV, will be broadcast on CBC from Toronto on March 12.

Mandel, for those who have no idea who he is, hosted the TV game show Deal or No Deal and serves as a judge on America's Got Talent and will be producing the Spike TV series Caraoke Showdown in 2017.
