New Year's Skytrain dance party to liven up transit

If your idea of a great New Year’s Eve party is one that goes (ahem) off the rails, we can’t think of a better event to ring in 2017 than the annual Skytrain Dance Party.

Organized by the group Vancouver Dance Party—a collective that specializes in pop-up events and reclaiming public space for entertainment—the Skytrain party promises revellers a “good ride” to wherever they have chosen to celebrate the close of the year.

Understandably, the party will follow a specific set of rules. All transit bylaws must be followed, including no inappropriate language, no drinking, and no smoking. Partiers must be wary of contravening Skytrain rules, such as failing to leave the train if ordered by staff, delaying the closing of doors, or lying to any transit officials.

Most important of all, however, are the the event's own three rules—costumes are recommended, dancing is a necessity, and smiles are compulsory.

Partiers keen to catch the train must meet at 7 p.m. at the Waterfront Station lobby, ready for a 7.30 p.m. departure.

The Skytrain Dance Party is on Saturday (December 31)
