New Year's Day Polar Bear Swim tradition continues at English Bay

Approximately 1,500 Vancouverites participated in this year's annual Polar Bear Swim.
It's been held every year at English Bay since 1920, making it Canada's oldest such event.
It was founded by Peter Pantages, who ran the Peter Pan Cafe on Granville Street.
Pantages was the nephew of Alexander Pantages, a Greek immigrant who built two vaudeville theatres in the city.

Unlike in recent years, it occurred while there was still plenty of snow on the ground.
