      CONCERTS

      The Rogue Folk Club presents Americana-roots supergroup Cajun Country Revival at St. James Hall.

      Vancouver singer-songwriter Louise Burns performs a selection of songs inspired by the love of star gazing at H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.

      Vancouver progressive-pop band Marianas Trench plays Abbotsford Centre, with guest Shawn Hook.

      Guitarist Dave Stryker, alto saxophonist Steve Slagle, organist Jared Gold, and drummer Jesse Cahill play Frankie's Jazz.

      The Vancouver Folk Music Festival Society presents Australian country-blues artist Henry Wagons at the Fox Cabaret, with guest Ryan Boldt.

      Annual, local independent-music awards ceremony, the Whammy Awards, takes place at the Rickshaw.

      Canadian alt-dance duo USS plays the Commodore, with guests Repartee.

      East Van Valentine's Concert at the Rio features roots, rock, and R&B music by Brickhouse, Roots Roundup, and the Grames Bros.

      DJs Keith McCafferty and Dave Mac play soul-dance music to celebrate Valentine's Day at the Astoria Pub.

      Tom Petty tribute band Runnin' Down a Dream plays the Backstage Lounge, with American Woman and Rippin' and Taron.

      Local band Nothingness plays a release party at Hidden City Records for new album Being, with guests Spruce Trap and Moondle.

      Vancouver psychedelic-country band Real Ponchos plays the WISE Hall, with guest James Green.

       

      COMEDY

      Comedy and stories from The Daily Show correspondent Hasan Minhaj's first-generation Indian-American experience at the Vancouver Playhouse. 

      New York City comedian Gina Brillon performs the second of three nights of standup at the Comedy Mix.

      Story Story Lie features X-rated comedy at Café Deux Soleils by David C. Jones, Cameron McLeod, Jenny Duffy, Fraz Wiest, and Patricia Morrison, with music by accordion player Ana Bon-Bon.

      Vancouver improvisers make up presentations on-the-spot at Little Mountain Gallery to go with PowerPoint slideshows they've never seen before. Comedians include Peter Carlone, Adam Pateman, Kerri Donaldson, Marta Wesselhoff, Maarten Bayliss, and Annalise Stuart.

      Live talk show at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club featuring Brett Martin and his trusty sidekick Sam Tonning.

       

      ARTS ETCETERA

      Showing at the Fairmont Pacific Rim of Japan Unlayered, an exhibition curated by master Japanese architect Kengo Kuma that presents Japanese traditions alongside contemporary design.

      Cavalia presents Odysseo, a multimedia performance that uses equestrian arts, stage arts, and high-tech theatrical effects to examine the centuries-old relationship between human and horse, under the white big top at Olympic Village.

       

      DANCE

      Small Stage 35 at the ANZA Club showcases a mashup of genres from hip hop to jazz and urban street to contemporary, co-curated by Vancouver choreographer Heather Dotto.

      Momentum at the SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts features three evenings of dance choreographed and performed by students in the School for the Contemporary Arts.

       

      MUSIC

      Michael Krajewski conducts the Vancouver Symphony and vocalists Jonathan Beedle and A.J. Swearingen in a concert tribute to Simon and Garfunkel.

      The UBC Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs music by Bernstein, Milhaud, Gershwin, and Tower at Chan Shun Concert Hall.

       

      GALLERIES

      Sonny Assu creates a new series of digital tags on a body of Emily Carr paintings at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

      Oh, How I Long For HomeMarianne Nicolson's installation at the Teck Gallery, addresses a persistent idea of the city as a conflicted promise for indigenous people.

       

      MUSEUMS

      Layers of Influence: Unfolding Cloth Across Cultures at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC features more than 130 diverse cultural garments, from Japanese kimonos, to colourful Indian saris, to the elaborate feather cloaks of the Maori people of Aotearoa/New Zealand.

      At the Museum of Vancouver, you can explore the cultural power and significance of collecting through wall-to-wall displays of unconventional objects.

       

      THEATRE

      Performance at the BMO Theatre Centre of the Arts Club's production of William Faulkner's Southern gothic masterpiece, As I Lay Dying.

      As part of Boca del Lupo's micro-performance series, creator-performer Karen Hines presents Crawlspace, a darkly comedic, cautionary tale about the brutal battleground of real estate. 

      The hit Broadway musical Kinky Boots--which takes you from a gentlemen’s shoe factory in Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan--is at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

      Classic Chic presents a performance at Pacific Theatre of Corleone: The Shakespearean Godfather, a tale of power, betrayal, and honour that combines Shakespearean drama and Coppola's movie masterpiece.

      Performance at Studio 58 of 42nd Street, the song-and-dance fable of Broadway featuring songs like “We’re in the Money”, “Lullaby of Broadway”, and, of course, “42nd Street”.

      The Arts Club Theatre Company presents a performance of The Audience, Peter Morgan's play that explores imaginary glimpses into the audiences between Great Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and her prime ministers, at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.

      United Players present a performance at Jericho Arts Centre of Sunday in the Park with George, a musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine about the relationship between an artist and his lover and model.

      Metro Theatre presents a performance of Crossing Delancey, a romantic comedy about a Jewish grandmother who sets out to find a nice Jewish boy for her granddaughter to marry.

      The Vagabond Players present a performance at Bernie Legge Theatre of Towards Zero, a murder mystery that probes the psychology of a jealous psychopathic killer.

      Align Entertainment presents a performance at the Michael J. Fox Theatre of The Little Mermaid, the large-scale musical about a mermaid who dreams of the world above the sea.

      Theatre Conspiracy presents Foreign Radical, an interactive theatrical game that explores security, profiling, freedom of expression, and privacy in the age of cybersurveillance, at Studio 1398.

      The rock-tinged musical Spring Awakening--which tells the story is of adolescent sexual awakening among a group of school children living in a socially repressive setting--is at PAL Theatre.

      Theatre Passe Muraille presents Elle, the story of a young French noblewoman who is abandoned on a deserted island off the coast of Newfoundland in 1542, at the Firehall Arts Centre.

      Exit 22 presents Fawly Towers, director Bob Frazer's comedy about a quirky hotel run by acerbic Basil and his wife Sybil, at BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts.

       

      ATTRACTIONS

      Cypress Mountain features skiing and snowboarding lessons, snowtubing park, cross-country ski trails, downhill skiing and snowboarding trails, and snowshoeing tours.

      Edgewater Casino offers 24-hour gaming, over 60 table games, a poker room, a high-limit section, 500 slot machines, restaurants and lounges, and live entertainment, including concerts and televised UFC events.

      Grouse Mountain resort features a Skyride to the peak with views of Vancouver and the Pacific Ocean, as well as skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice skating, mountain ziplines, and the Peak of Christmas.

      Robson Square Ice Rink offers free ice-skating in downtown Vancouver, with skate rental available.

      At the Bloedel Conservatory you can take in more than 200 free-flying exotic birds and 500 exotic plants and flowers.

      The Capilano Suspension Bridge features seven suspended footbridges offering views 110 feet above the forest floor.

      Mount Seymour features skiing and snowboarding lessons from the Mt. Seymour Ski and Snowboard School, tubing and tobogganing, and snowshoe trails.

      Late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of David Lynch's crime-thriller Wild At Heart, starring Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern.

      The DOXA Documentary Film Festival presents a screening at the Cinematheque of Do Not Resist, Craig Atkinson's new doc about police violence in the United States.

      Opening night at the Centennial Theatre of the 20th annual Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival.

      Screenings at Vancity Theatre of The Oscar Shorts: Live Action and The Oscar Shorts: Animation.

      Screening at Vancity Theatre of Quebec My Country Mon Pays, which explores how the development of Quebec nationalism has left many native Anglophones out in the cold.

      Free afternoon screening at the West Vancouver Memorial Library of Trolls, the family film about two mismatched friends who must work together to save the day when their village is invaded by the grumpy Bergens,
