The latest batch of finalists, announced today (February 6) for Season 4, of MasterChef Canada include two home cooks from Vancouver.

Barrie McConachie, an employee relations consultant, and Thea VanHerwaaden, a broker originally from Comox, B.C., are the only two finalists from B.C. and will compete against others from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Nunvaut.

In this season, the show is changing things up as each candidate is surprised with their first challenge at their home or office in their hometown. Given a box of uncooked rice, they're given only 20 minutes to decide what to make and gather their ingredients before they head off to Toronto.

The judging panel is comprised again of Claudio Aprile, Michael Bonacini, and Alvin Leung.

Only 12 places will be available for the cooks to advance in the show towards winning the title of MasterChef Canada and $100,000.

Vancouver's Barrie McConachie also made the top 24 cooks on Season 4 of MasterChef Canada.

The new season will premiere on March 2 on CTV at 9 p.m.

Previous winners include David Jorge, who won Season 2 in 2015 and has since opened S+L Kitchen + Bar in Langley and Abbotsford, with a third location to open in Surrey.
