Vancouver police officer lauded as hero for saving drowning dog

This weekend, Peter Colenutt has become a social media star and, for now, the most famous member of the Vancouver Police Department.

It's all because he didn't stand on the shore as a dog looked like he was about to drown in Lost Lagoon.

The pooch went onto thin ice in pursuit of a bird and fell into the water.

Colenutt lived up to the VPD's slogan of going beyond the call by removing part of his uniform and jumping in to perform a heroic rescue.

      Even the chief was impressed.
