      CONCERTS

      Massachusetts folk band Parsonsfield plays the Fox Cabaret, touring in support of latest album Blooming Through the Black.

      Quebec indie-rock band Wolf Parade plays the second of three nights at the Imperial. SOLD OUT.

      Vancouver jazz vocalist Maya Rae performs material from debut album Sapphire Birds at Frankie's Jazz.

      American rock band Hippo Campus plays the Cobalt, touring in support of debut full-length album landmark.

      New York City-based klezmer band the Klezmatics plays Norman Rothstein Theatre as part of the Chutzpah Festival.

      The B.C. Home and Garden Show at BC Place features more than 425 exhibitors and features, seminars and live demos by Vancouver culinary masters, and home, horticulture, and landscaping specialists such as HGTV's Bryan Baeumler (above) and Carson Arthur.

       

      COMEDY

      American standup comedian Todd Glass performs the first of three nights at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club as part of JFL NorthWest.

      South African comedian, TV and radio host, and actor Trevor Noah performs two shows at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre as part of JFL NorthWest.

      American standup comedian, political satirist, and author Barry Crimmins plays the Biltmore Cabaret as part of JFL NorthWest.

      Performances by Vancouver improv troupes the Radical and Union Jacked at Seven Dining Lounge.

      Ross Dauk hosts an evening of comedy about changing tides at Little Mountain Gallery.

      The JFL Northwest comedy festival continues until February 25, featuring performances at various Vancouver venues by such comedy stars as Sarah Silverman, Trevor Noah, Chris D'Elia, Iliza, Tom Segura, Brian Posehn, Jon Dore, Nate Bargatze, Jim Gaffigan, and Colin Quinn.

       

      ARTS ETCETERA

      Cavalia presents Odysseo, a multimedia performance that uses equestrian arts, stage arts, and high-tech theatrical effects to examine the centuries-old relationship between human and horse, under the white big top at Olympic Village.

      The Talking Stick Festival, an indigenous performing-arts festival featuring film, theatre, dance, celebration of powwow culture, an aboriginal artisan fair, a talking circles, and workshops, continues at various Vancouver venues.

      The Chutzpah Festival, a celebration of Jewish performing arts featuring dance, theatre, comedy, and music by local, Canadian, and international artists, continues at various Vancouver venues.

      Showing at the Fairmont Pacific Rim of Japan Unlayered, an exhibition curated by master Japanese architect Kengo Kuma that presents Japanese traditions alongside contemporary design.

      The Geekenders and Kitty Glitter present Mischief Managed: Harry Potter Burlesque at the Rio Theatre.

      DANCE

      The Mars Hotel & Kwan Yin features performances by Ziyian Kwan, Noam Gagnon, Handmade Blade, Lihuen Kwan, and Peggy Lee at the Firehall Arts Centre.

      The Incubator Project features works by Burgundy Brixx, Scheherazaad Cooper, Vanessa Goodman, and Dayna Szyndrowski at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.

       

      LITERARY

      Celebrate Black History Month with a reading by poet Neal Hall and a performance by the African Stages youth group.

       

      MUSIC

      Burnaby Lyric Opera presents Bizet's classic opera Carmen at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. Sung in French with English surtitles.

      Composer Navid Navab joins chef Tony Chong in the act of performing music through open engagement with matter at the Western Front.

      Layers of Influence: Unfolding Cloth Across Cultures at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC features more than 130 diverse cultural garments, from Japanese kimonos, to colourful Indian saris, to the elaborate feather cloaks of the Maori people of Aotearoa/New Zealand.

      At the Museum of Vancouver, you can explore the cultural power and significance of collecting through wall-to-wall displays of unconventional objects.

       

      THEATRE

      Performance at Jericho Theatre of Liz Lochhead's Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off, a raw telling of the familiar tale of the enmity between Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots.

      Performance at Studio 58 of 42nd Street, the song-and-dance fable of Broadway featuring songs like “We’re in the Money”, “Lullaby of Broadway”, and, of course, “42nd Street”.

      As part of the Talking Stick Festival, Urban Ink presents the opening of Margo Kane's indigenous Canadian play Moonlodge at the Goldcorp Stage at the BMO Theatre Centre.

      Classic Chic presents a performance at Pacific Theatre of Corleone: The Shakespearean Godfather, a tale of power, betrayal, and honour that combines Shakespearean drama and Coppola's movie masterpiece.

      The Arts Club Theatre Company presents a performance of The Audience, Peter Morgan's play that explores imaginary glimpses into the audiences between Great Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and her prime ministers, at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.

      The Vagabond Players present a performance at Bernie Legge Theatre of Towards Zero, a murder mystery that probes the psychology of a jealous psychopathic killer.

      The School for the Contemporary Arts at SFU presents opening night of its version of Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet.

       

      ATTRACTIONS

      At the Bloedel Conservatory you can take in more than 200 free-flying exotic birds and 500 exotic plants and flowers.

      Edgewater Casino offers 24-hour gaming, over 60 table games, a poker room, a high-limit section, 500 slot machines, restaurants and lounges, and live entertainment, including concerts and televised UFC events.

      Grouse Mountain resort features a Skyride to the peak with views of Vancouver and the Pacific Ocean, as well as skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice skating, mountain ziplines, and the Peak of Christmas.
