      The Desert Daze Tour at the Rickshaw features performances by Deap Vally (above), Temples, Night Beats, Froth, and Jjuujjuu.

      Black History Month concert at PAL Theatre honouring the legacy of the first elected Black officials to the B.C. Legislature--Rosemary Brown and Emery Barnes--features jazz and blues singer Dee Daniels, traditional Zimbabwean group Blessing Mubaiwa, local poet Scruffmouth, and jazz group A Train. 

      L.A.-based hip-hop artist Kevin Abstract plays the Biltmore, with guest Bearface.

       

      BENEFITS

      Catch the glitz and glamour of the Oscars on four large screens at a dinner event at the Morrissey Pub supporting the Parkinson Society B.C.

      Local bands Jer Breaks, Weathering Highs, Moondrifter, and Joseph Blood perform at a fundraiser at LanaLou's in support of the Overdose Prevention Society, a grassroots harm-reduction organization working in the DTES.

      ArtStarts presents Sand Northrup in an interactive performance and hands-on workshop at Upstairs River Market that features a mix of physical comedy and circus skills.

       

      COMEDY

      Comedians Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops, Jeff Davis, and Joel Murray perform improv games from the Emmy-nominated TV series Whose Line Is It Anyway? at the River Rock Show Theatre.

       

      ARTS ETCETERA

      TheEgg Arts Foundation hosts a presentation by John Valentino, professor of fine arts at Southeastern Louisiana University, exploring the radical creativity behind the art of Burning Man.

      The Chutzpah Festival, a celebration of Jewish performing arts featuring dance, theatre, comedy, and music by local, Canadian, and international artists, continues at various Vancouver venues.

      Final day of the Talking Stick Festival, an indigenous performing-arts festival featuring film, theatre, dance, celebration of powwow culture, an aboriginal artisan fair, a talking circles, and workshops, continues at various Vancouver venues.

      Cavalia presents Odysseo, a multimedia performance that uses equestrian arts, stage arts, and high-tech theatrical effects to examine the centuries-old relationship between human and horse, under the white big top at Olympic Village.

      Showing at the Fairmont Pacific Rim of Japan Unlayered, an exhibition curated by master Japanese architect Kengo Kuma that presents Japanese traditions alongside contemporary design.

       

      DANCE

      Dance companies The Source (Vancouver) and Abiding Lines (Saskatoon) perform contemporary, hip-hop, and street jazz-fusion dance at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.

      TomoeArts presents an intimate concert of classical Japanese dance at Carousel Theatre featuring the repertoire of master dancer Fujima Shōgo.

      Al Mozaico Flamenco Dance Academy presents a dance recital at Presentation House Theatre featuring Mozaico Flamenco dancers and guest guitarist Jake Lee from Victoria.

       

      LITERARY

      Local author Lawrence Verigin signs his books Dark Seed and the just-released Seed of Control at Chapters Granville.

       

      MUSIC

      The Vancouver Recital Society presents violinist Benjamin Beilman and pianist Yekwon Sunwoo in a program of music by Schubert, Bartok, and Janáček at the Vancouver Playhouse.

      Bramwell Tovey conducts sopranos Robyn Driedger-Klassen and Eve-Lyn de la Haye, mezzo-soprano Marion Newman, accordionist Jelena Milojevic, and the Vancouver Symphony in a program of Tovey's Fugitive Voices and Höstman's Nuyamł-ił Kulhulmx--Singing the Earth at the Orpheum Annex.

      Local organist Gerald Harder performs music by Robert Hebble, John Cook, and Dieterich Bextehude at Ryerson United Church.

       

      GALLERIES

      Susan Point: Spindle Whorl at the Vancouver Art Gallery surveys Point’s entire career through more than a hundred artworks that take the spindle whorl as their starting point.

      Oh, How I Long For HomeMarianne Nicolson's installation at the Teck Gallery, addresses a persistent idea of the city as a conflicted promise for indigenous people.

      Sonny Assu creates a new series of digital tags on a body of Emily Carr paintings at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

      Layers of Influence: Unfolding Cloth Across Cultures at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC features more than 130 diverse cultural garments, from Japanese kimonos, to colourful Indian saris, to the elaborate feather cloaks of the Maori people of Aotearoa/New Zealand.

      At the Museum of Vancouver, you can explore the cultural power and significance of collecting through wall-to-wall displays of unconventional objects.

       

      THEATRE

      The Arts Club Theatre Company presents its final performance of The Audience, Peter Morgan's play that explores imaginary glimpses into the audiences between Great Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and her prime ministers, at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.

      Final performance at Studio 58 of 42nd Street, the song-and-dance fable of Broadway featuring songs like “We’re in the Money”, “Lullaby of Broadway”, and, of course, “42nd Street”.

      Performance at Jericho Theatre of Liz Lochhead's Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off, a raw telling of the familiar tale of the enmity between Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots.

      The Vagabond Players present its final performance at Bernie Legge Theatre of Towards Zero, a murder mystery that probes the psychology of a jealous psychopathic killer.

      Carousel Theatre for Young People presents a kid-friendly stage version of the Dr. Seuss book The Cat in the Hat at the Waterfront Theatre.

       

      ATTRACTIONS

      Edgewater Casino offers 24-hour gaming, over 60 table games, a poker room, a high-limit section, 500 slot machines, restaurants and lounges, and live entertainment, including concerts and televised UFC events.

      The Capilano Suspension Bridge features seven suspended footbridges offering views 110 feet above the forest floor.

      Grouse Mountain resort features a Skyride to the peak with views of Vancouver and the Pacific Ocean, as well as skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice skating, mountain ziplines, and the Peak of Christmas.

      At the Bloedel Conservatory you can take in more than 200 free-flying exotic birds and 500 exotic plants and flowers.

      Cypress Mountain features skiing and snowboarding lessons, snowtubing park, cross-country ski trails, downhill skiing and snowboarding trails, and snowshoeing tours.

      Mount Seymour features skiing and snowboarding lessons from the Mt. Seymour Ski and Snowboard School, tubing and tobogganing, and snowshoe trails.

      The Vancouver Aquarium features almost 800 animal species in galleries ranging from Canada's Arctic to the Amazon rainforest.

       

      MOVIES

      The third annual Vancouver Badass Film Festival at the Rio Theatre celebrates the best in new extreme genre film from around the world.

      The VIFF Oscar Party at Vancity Theatre features a red-carpet fashion commentary by Steven Schelling and Michael van den Bos, free popcorn, an Oscar-ballot bingo card, food truck Disco Cheetah, drink specials, and a screening of the Academy Awards.

      The Cinematheque presents screenings of the first two features by acclaimed Japanese auteur Takeshi “Beat” KitanoViolent Cop and Boiling Point, in brand-new digital restorations.

      Screening at the Vancouver Public Library of The Red Pill, a feature documentary about gender equality and the Men's Rights Movement.

      Following the Reel Causes AGM at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts there will be a screening of Gringos in the Garbage and a post-film discussion.
