Weather may delay some Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival events but lunch box pre-orders to start

Although the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled to run from March 30 to April 23, this year's unusually prolonged and cold winter weather may delay some events.

Spring may arrive a month later than anticipated, and with it, the flowering of cherry trees.

Consequently, the festival will be rescheduling its Big Picnic at Queen Elizabeth from April 1 to April 14.

Meanwhile, from Monday (March 13) onward, online pre-orders for lunch boxes will start to be taken.

Two lunch boxes are available, created by Cocktails and Canapes: one with a furikake-seasoned chicken breast and two pieces of sockeye salmon temari sushi balls with cream cheese centres, the other is a vegetarian and gluten-free option with ricepaper rolls and two pieces of avocado temari sushi with oshinko pickle.

Both come with buckwheat soba noodle salad and a rose petal white chocolate square.

They're available for $20 each plus tax and will be delivered to Vancouver parks and green spaces.
