On April 7 and 8, 8 p.m., Compagnie Hervé KOUBI takes the stage at the Vancouver Playhouse (600 Hamilton).

Presented as the final show of DanceHouse's season, the French dance company performs What the day owes to the night, which sees 12 Algerian and Burkina Faso dancers combine elements of capoeira, martial arts, and urban and contemporary dance.

What the day owes to the night sees French-born choreographer Hervé Koubi reconnect with his Algerian roots and was inspired by Yasmina Khadra's novel of the same name.

The score includes music by Bach and Vivaldi, traditional Sufi music, and a piece by Nubian composer Hamza El Din, played by the Kronos Quartet.

Dance fans can also take advantage of pre-show chats with Koubi, held on April 7 and 8 at 7:15 p.m.

As part of the Speaking With Dance conversation series, Dance International Magazine editor Kaija Pepper will moderate a free discussion on Muslim culture in today's society, which is held April 4, 7 p.m., at the Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre.

Tickets for Compagnie Hervé KOUBI start at $35 and are available online or by calling 604-801-6225.
