While the flowering of cherry blossoms has been delayed this year by the unusually cold weather, their sweet equivalent hasn't been.

It's year three of Lucky's Doughnuts special-edition sakura (cherry blossom) doughnut. It's a Bismarck doughnut filled with white chocolate and matcha pastry cream and coated in a sakura and strawberry glaze, with edible fondant flowers and dried sakura on top.

The doughnuts, served in a special pink box, sell for $5 each.

They'll be available on March 30 (and will continue to sell until they run out of ingredients) at Lucky's Doughnuts two locations: 2198 West 4th Avenue or 2902 Main Street.

And if you're hemming and hawing about whether or not to get one, consider the fact that this sweet treat is for a good cause.

On March 30, all proceeds from the sale of these special edition doughnuts will go to Dining Out for Life, B.C.'s restaurant and hospitality fundraiser for A Loving Spoonful's meal and nutrition programs for people with HIV or AIDS, including single mothers with families and people multiple illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, or mental illness.

About 100 restaurants are participating in DOFL on March 30 by donating 25 percent of their food sales to DOFL. For more details, see this article.
