Former Vision Vancouver park board candidate Coree Tull re-emerges in public eye on TV and on NDP website

Vision Vancouver had high hopes when it nominated Coree Tull as a park board candidate in 2014.

As cochair of the Out in Sports Society, she had a high profile with folks involved in LGBT athletics in Vancouver.

Tull also had strong environmental credentials. She had previously worked the Nature Conservancy of Canada and volunteered to promote cycling.

In addition, she was communications and outreach director for NDP MP Fin Donnelly, who's perhaps the greenest New Democrat in the province.

With all these connections, I expected her to get elected. And she would have helped further Vision's support within the LGBT community, which has always been an important constituency for Vision mayor Gregor Robertson.

But it was not to be: Tull ended up in 12th place as the voters gave Vision park candidates a drubbing in 2014.

With that her media profile diminished.

Recently, however, she's appeared in TV ads touting Vancity's inclusiveness. Yes, these messages do include real people.

Today, I also spotted a photo of Tull and her wife Kathryn on the B.C. NDP website.

This shouldn't come as a huge surprise.

That's because leading up to the 2013 provincial election, Tull was the party's deputy tour director, ensuring that the former leader, Adrian Dix, and his entourage reached their destinations along the campaign trail.

The image was a nice shout-out to the LGBT community from B.C. NDP Leader John Horgan.

Whether he's gaining traction with voters, including gays and lesbians, won't truly be known until the provincial election is held on May 9.
