Taking a page from Parks Canada's book, Via Rail is offering travellers a special Canada 150 Youth Pass in celebration of the nation's sesquicentennial birthday.

The train pass may be used by Canadians between 12 and 25 years of age and allows the holder unlimited travel to and from anywhere in Canada for the month of July. It costs $150 plus tax. (For comparison, a youth summer pass, which is good for unlimited travel throughout Canada for 60 days, is $699. That's $349.50 for 30 days regularly, which means savings of almost $200 with the Canada 150 Youth Pass.)

The Via Rail network includes stops in cities such as Jasper, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Halifax. Other lesser known destinations include Bathurst, New Brunswick; Jonquière, Quebec; and Churchill, Manitoba, a town known for its beluga whales and polar bears.

Given the steep prices typically attached to traveling the country by plane, this may just be our chance to explore Canada without breaking the bank. Sorry, over 25ers.
