New Twitter accounts are yet another sign that B.C. election season is upon us

The writ hasn't been dropped so the provincial election hasn't formally begun yet.

But most of the pieces are already in place for races to begin in 87 constituencies across the province.

This weekend, expect to see campaign offices opening in several communities. That should prompt another round of news releases to the media.

Another indication is the launch of satirical Twitter accounts, which draw attention to the shortcomings of the major parties.

One of the more clever ones is called @TruthPodium.

It pokes fun at the B.C. Liberal government's habit of placing the premier and other cabinet ministers at microphones attached to podiums screaming propaganda messages.

Another one, @DearLeaderBC, purports to be putting out tweets by "Kellyanne Clark".

It features a hideous juxtoposition of the faces of Premier Christy Clark and Donald Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway.

These are inexpensive responses to the cash-rich TV "SayAnythingJohn" advertising campaign smearing NDP Leader John Horgan.

Meanwhile, a retired TransLink worker has filed a notice of civil claim in B.C. Supreme Court alleging that the B.C. Liberals have misappropriated government funds.

This has occurred via the government's pre-election advertising campaigns—an allegation vehemently denied by Andrew Wilkinson, the B.C. Liberal cabinet minister who oversees this area.

So far, the plaintiff hasn't made an issue of the government's blizzard of news releases, though there's still time to amend his notice of civil claim.

Check out how many emails arrived in my inbox over a short period today, each bearing good-news announcements from the B.C. government.

Surely, these messages aren't part of a partisan campaign to re-elect the B.C. Liberals. Or are they?
