Beard appreciation at the Lamplighter

Last night, patrons at the Lamplighter Public House had a hairy time for a very good cause.

The Vancouver Facial Hair Club held its third annual competition with part of the proceeds going to HeadsUpGuys, which helps men beat back depression.

Categories included the business beard, i.e. no more than one inch under the chin. There were also battles for supremacy for those with beards between one and six inches, six and 12 inches, and whiskers extending beyond a foot below the face.

      Partial beards were also honoured.

"Anything that isn't considered a traditional moustache or beard, must have a part shaved separating it from a regular beard," the Vancouver Facial Hair Club Facebook page explains. "Examples are mutton chops, whaler beard, handlebar, etc. Styling products are not allowed."

There was also a partial beard freestyle competition in which styling products were permitted.
