Annihilator's Jeff Waters picks the four bands he'd like to see in a club tonight

Had a nice chat with Annihilator’s Jeff Waters last week, in advance of his show at the Rickshaw on June 15.

It had been a while. The last time I interviewed him was back in 1990, when his then-Vancouver-based band had just released its second (and most popular) album, Never, Neverland.

As the interview wound down I asked Waters, if he could see any four metal bands in concert that night, which ones they would be.

Turns out he’s an old-school metal (or hard-rock) fan.

"Can I expand the metal to any kind of metal, or hard-rock metal?," he asked, before getting the okay on that. "I would say Van Halen... Okay, if I could see 'em in a club, this'd be even better. Van Halen, Kiss, Slayer, and uh... Ozzy with Randy Rhoads back in the '80s. I want to see them in a club now. I've seen them all in arenas, I need to see them in a club now."

For more from Waters, see the story in this week's issue of the Georgia Straight.

Read it on paper for that early-'90s thrash-metal vibe.
