      CONCERTS

      Atlanta hip-hop artist Future plays Rogers Arena, with guests Migos, Tory Lanez, and A$AP Ferg.

      Death-, black-, and doom-metal music by Bolzer, Sortilegia, Qrixkuor, Harvest Gulgatha, Shroud of the Heretic, Amphisbaena, and Kanashibari at the Rickshaw on night two of Covenant Festival III.

      Chant masters Deva Premal and Miten perform at the Vogue Theatre, with guest Manose.

      Vancouver-based fusion artist Ezra Kwizera performs at a release party for latest album Humura at White Rock's Blue Frog Studios.

      Local rock band the East Vamps plays SBC Restaurant, with guests Crummy, Austringer, and Aging Youth Gang.

      Toronto alt-pop duo Darcys, composed of Jason Couse and Wes Marskell, plays Fortune Sound Club.

      The Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra presents a night of music by Michael O'Neill, Turtle Bliss Gamelan, Cameron Wilson, Finn Manniche, Chen Zuohui, Shawn Mativetsky, and Ziya Tabassian at the Revue Stage.

       

      Springfree Trampoline presents a trampoline performance and meet-and-greet with two-time Canadian Olympic Gold Medal-winning trampoline gymnast Rosie MacLennan at Lord Nelson Elementary School.

      Community Sweat Lodge at Surrey's Cwenengitel Aboriginal Society is a First Peoples’ ceremony used to connect with and honour the earth. Participants will be exposed to heat, steam, and smoke and should be physically fit. 

       

      FORUMS

      The Cerebral Palsy Association of B.C. presents a self-esteem and financial stability workshop at John Braithwaite Community Centre with guest speaker Salina M. Dewar, a tax advocate at Disability Alliance B.C.

       

      KIDS' STUFF

      Let Your Music Shine! with Lisa and Linda and the Vancouver Symphony present a kid-friendly concert that explores fast and slow music at the Vancouver Playhouse.

       

      COMEDY

      American comedian Darryl Lenox performs the first of two nights of standup at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club.

      American comedian Ryan Stout performs the second of three nights of standup at the Comedy Mix.

      Vancouver improvisers make up presentations to go with PowerPoint slideshows they've never seen before at Little Mountain Gallery.

       

      DANCE

      Coastal City Ballet presents Giselle, Irene Schneider’s timeless exploration of the redemptive power of love, at the Surrey Arts Centre.

       

      LITERARY

      Neil Pasricha, author of The Book of Awesome and Awesome is Everywhere gives an informal presentation and a Q&A session, followed by a book signing, at Kidsbooks.

       

      THEATRE

      Staircase Theatre presents the world premiere at PAL Studio Theatre of Scott Button’s dark thriller The Hunger Room, which explores loneliness, disconnection, and violence.

      The Arts Club presents Robert Askins's comedy Hand to God, about three troubled Texas teenagers who meet weekly to express themselves through puppetry, at Goldcorp Stage at the BMO Theatre Centre.

      Bard on the Beach presents a performance of The Winter's Tale, Shakespeare's drama in which the love of two young people becomes the catalyst for reunion, redemption, and a family’s healing.

      Sandbox Theatre presents its version of Shakespeare's Hamlet, in which a father's death and mother's hasty marriage provoke thoughts of murder and vengeance.

      The Arts Club Theatre Company presents Million Dollar Quarteta jukebox musical inspired by Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins, at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.

      Pacific Theatre presents a performance of Outside Mullingar, a quirky story about a pair of introverted misfits from families that live on neighbouring farms.

      The Sidekick Players present Jenny's House of Joy, Norm Foster's play about four women who run a brothel in Kansas in the late 1800s, at Tsawwassen Arts Centre.

      Vagabond Players presents Charley's Aunt, a classic comedy about two young Oxford students in need of a chaperone so they can invite their young ladies to tea, at New Westminster's Bernie Legge Theatre.

      The Touchstone Theatre-presented In Tune 2017 features 11 days of masterclasses, showcases of new musicals in development, professional development, and panel discussions until June 18 at various Vancouver venues.

      As part of Boca del Lupo's Micro Performance Series, These Are the Songs That I Sing When I'm Sad is an interactive performance at the Fishbowl by Jane Miller in which she explores the sad songs that have played a role in her life.

      Awkward Stage Productions presents Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, Bert V. Royal's parody that reimagines the Peanuts gang as teenagers in small-town America.

      Performance at Deep Cove Shaw Theatre of The World Goes 'Round, in which five women and one man portray multiple characters in a revue that features 30 musical numbers from stage and film.

      Mad House Productions presents a live reading of the third entry in Ian Doescher's William Shakespeare Star Wars original trilogy, The Jedi Doth Return, at La Fontana Caffe.

      Pictures From Here at the Vancouver Art Gallery features photographs and video works by Vancouver-based artists Roy Arden, Karin Bubaš, Christos Dikeakos, Stan Douglas, Greg Girard, Rodney Graham, Mike Grill, Arni Haraldsson, Fred Herzog, Barrie Jones, Evan Lee, N.E.       MUSEUMS

      Traces of Words: Art and Calligraphy from Asia at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC examines the physical traces of words, both spoken and recorded, that are unique to humans.

      Amazonia: The Rights of Nature at at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC features Amazonian basketry, textiles, carvings, feather works, and ceramics both of everyday and of ceremonial use, representing indigenous, Maroon, and white settler communities.

      The Lost Fleet at the Vancouver Maritime Museum investigates the unjust 1941 seizure of 1,200 Japanese-Canadian fishing vessels following the bombing of Pearl Harbour through a collection of historic photographs, models of Japanese-Canadian-built fishing boats, fishermen’s tools, and replica documents.

       

      ATTRACTIONS

      The 22-hectare VanDusen Botanical Garden features over 255,000 plants from around the world, a restaurant, a garden shop, and a horticulture library.

      The Capilano Suspension Bridge features seven suspended footbridges offering views 110 feet above the forest floor.

      At the Bloedel Conservatory you can take in more than 200 free-flying exotic birds and 500 exotic plants and flowers.

      Lighthouse Park features 10 kilometres of hiking trails, picnic areas, guided walks provided by the Lighthouse Park Preservation Society, and the historical 1912 Point Atkinson Lighthouse.

      Late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of Dario Argento's The Bird With the Crystal Plumage, starring Suzy Kendall.

      The Vancouver Taiwanese Film Festival, running until Sunday at Vancity Theatre, opens with screenings of My Egg Boy and Ode to Time.

      Gala reception at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts kicks off the fourth annual Vancouver Turkish Film Festival, which features the best of contemporary Turkish cinema, with all proceeds to the Turkish Canadian Society.

      Create Hong Kong and the Cinematheque present Creative Visions: Hong Kong Cinema 1997-2017, a specially curated program highlighting six Hong Kong filmmakers' work from the last 20 years. Screening tonight are director Fruit Chan's 1997 indie hit Made in Hong Kong and his 2004 horror satire Dumplings.
