Mystery Machine and Sianspheric play the Rickshaw Theatre tonight

Local fans of the space rock and shoegaze genres have reason to rejoice, because tonight at the Rickshaw Theatre, Mystery Machine and Sianspheric are going to let you party like it's 2003. (That was the last time the latter band of veteran reverb merchants from Hamilton, Ontario, played in Vancouver.)

Sianspheric has been around since 1994 (albeit with a hiatus in the early 2000s), but isn't particularly prolific when it comes to studio recordings. In fact, last year's Writing the Future in Letters of Fire was the band's first full-length album of new material since 2001's The Sound of the Colour of the Sun

Okay, admittedly, Sianshperic is not a party band. Unless your idea of partying involves blissing out while a warm bath of sound envelops you. From There's Always Someplace You'd Rather Be (1998), here's "Nothing Stands".

      Dreamy as fuck.

This won't be Vancouver guitar-damage institution Mystery Machine's first time sharing the stage with Sianspheric. Here's a video of the two bands playing "Bullshit Patrol" (from Mystery Machine's 2012 album Western Magnetics) at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern.

Also on the bill: Vancouver bands Catlow and Did You Die. See the concert's Facebook event page for full details.
