From August 1 to 11, Early Music Vancouver presents the Vancouver Bach Festival at Christ Church Cathedral and the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.

Following last year's inaugural event, this year's festival offers up 14 concerts that will introduce audiences to some of J.S. Bach's masterpieces. The festival will also showcase some of the ways in which Martin Luther's thinking set in motion profound musical and expressive transformations in artists and traditions both before and after Bach.

Inspired by the 500th anniversary of Luther's Protestant Reformation, music this year includes Matt Haimovitz's Overtures to Bach, Johann Schein's Before Bach: The Fountains of Israel, and Bach's St. John Passion.

Music fans can expect to take in performances by Cinquecento, Pacific MusicWorks, Gli Angeli Genève, the Pacific Baroque Orchestra, the Vancouver Cantata Singers, and various solo artists.

Tickets for the Vancouver Bach Festival range from $10 to $68 and are available online.
