      Urban music festival FVDED in the Park kicks off with performances by Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, Russ Getter, and Dillon Francis. Held at Holland Park.

      Charity concert Say Hello 2 Heaven features the music of Chris Cornell and performances by BOG, Left Spine Down, Dirty Debbie, Fuck Gunz, the Waning Light, Chris Olson, and the Ring. Held at the Rickshaw Theatre.

      Argentinian ska-rock band Entangados coheadlines with Vancouver experimental-Latin ensemble MNGWA at the WISE Hall.

      Rock fans can take in laser shows choreographed to the music of Radiohead and Pink Floyd at the BCIT Planetarium.

      The Rising Eagle Reconciliation Concert features music by Art Lucier and the Revivers. Held at Coquitlam's Town Center Park Plaza.

      East Vancouver alternative pop-punk band Pale Red headlines at the Railway Stage and Beer Café.

      Canadian rock-roots band Mip Power Trio performs with guests the Slots and the Cole Patenaude Band at LanaLou's Restaurant.

      Variety show The Shit Show takes a journey through the world of the TV game show while raising money for Doctors Without Borders. Held at the Russian Hall.

      At the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre, an exhibition of painting and performance art by stroke survivors raises money for stroke-recovery programming.

      Highlights of the Squamish Nation 30th Annual Youth Powwow include an aboriginal dance competition, aboriginal arts and crafts, a salmon barbecue, and bannock. Held at Capilano Reserve Park Grounds.

      At the Cannabis Life Conference, you can get a glimpse into the emerging medicinal industry through a variety of panel topics, keynote speakers, and interactive networking opportunities. Held at the Westin Bayshore Hotel.

      Walk through the forest with an experienced guide of Coast Salish descent and learn about the traditional and present-day indigenous relationships with local flora and fauna. Held at the #19 Stanley Park Bus Loop.

       

      KIDS' STUFF

      Highlights of Playland include midway games, fair food, an arcade, a shooting gallery, a climbing wall, a haunted mansion, family rides like Teacups and Merry-Go-Round, and extreme rides like Corkscrew, the Beast, Hell's Gate, Revelation, and Wooden Roller Coaster.

      You can take in an hour of kid-friendly yoga, followed by lunch, snacks, and social time at the Heartfulness Meditation Centre.

      All Star Wrestling's 10th Anniversary Show features wrestling by Tommy Dreamer, Mr. India, Thunder from Jalandhar, Azeem the Dream, Christopher Ryseck, the Fabulous Fabio, Gangrel the Vampire Warrior, Hurricane Adam Ryder, Kenny Lush, Tom Lawlor, Rob the Giant, Short Sleeve Sampson, Air Adonis, Nick Price, Matt X Static, Kobra Kai, Twisted Sisters Holidead and Thunder Rosa, and the Hall Sisters.       TAKE ACTION

      Fire This Time Movement for Social Justice presents a protest and petition drive and info display protesting U.S. involvement in Venezuela. Held at the United States Consulate and in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

       

      COMEDY

      Vancouver standup comedian Dan Quinn performs a solo show at the Comedy Mix.

      Irish Canadian standup comedian, actor, and writer Tommy Campbell performs a solo show at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club.

      Fistful of Kicks: An Improvised Kung Fu Adventure presents a night of improv comedy inspired by your favourite martial-arts movies.  Held at the Havana Theatre.

       

      ARTS ET CETERA

      Too Queer: A Bi Visibility Cabaret features performances by Honeybird,  Jessica Leung, Doctor Ray, Ruthe Ordare, Manda Stroyer, Shane Sable, Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa, Dominique Wakeland, Alexa Fraser, Matt Winter, and Rory Jade Grey. Held at the Fox Cabaret.

       

      DANCE

      Robson Square Summer Dance Series kicks off a season of free, all-ages dance performances and lessons at UBC Robson Square.

      The Dancing on the Edge Festival 2017 pushes the frontiers of contemporary dance with performances by over 25 choreographers and over 80 dance artists. Held at various Vancouver venues.

       

      MUSIC

      English choral group and mixed-voice ensemble Choir of Christ's College Cambridge performs on its North American tour. Held at Dunbar Ryerson United Church.

      Conductor Susie Benchasil Seiter leads the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in a concert of music inspired by popular video game Pokémon. Held at the Orpheum Theatre.

       

      THEATRE

      The Arts Club Theatre Company presents Bittergirl: The Musical, which charts the romantic breakups of three women and the lively antics that ensue. Held at the Granville Island Stage.

      Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival presents a version of William Shakespeare's comedy Much Ado About Nothing set in 1959 Italy. Held at Bard on the Beach.

      The Arts Club Theatre Company presents Million Dollar Quartet, a jukebox musical inspired by Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. Held at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.

      Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival presents William Shakespeare's The Two Gentlemen of Verona, in which two best friends are in love with the same woman. Held at Bard on the Beach.

      The 54th Entertainment presents Emilio Merritt's original play Dali and Hopper at the Vancity Culture Lab.

      Franca Rame and Dario Fo's play A Woman Alone portrays the story of a woman who's locked in her apartment by a jealous husband. Held at the PAL Theatre.

      Stone's Throw Productions presents George F. Walker's Problem Child, about two dysfunctional parents who are trying to get custody of their baby. Held at the Pacific Theatre.

      Outdoor-theatre festival Theatre Under the Stars kicks off its season with a preview performance of Mary Poppins at Malkin Bowl.

      GALLERIES

      Claude Monet's Secret Garden at the Vancouver Art Gallery showcases 38 paintings that span the career of the French artist who is regarded as a master of the Impressionist movement.

      Pictures From Here at the Vancouver Art Gallery features photographs and video works by Vancouver-based artists Roy Arden, Karin Bubaš, Christos Dikeakos, Stan Douglas, Greg Girard, Rodney Graham, Mike Grill, Arni Haraldsson, Fred Herzog, Barrie Jones, Evan Lee, N.E. Thing Co., Marian Penner Bancroft, Henri Robideau, Sandra Semchuk and James Nicholas, Althea Thauberger, Jeff Wall, Ian Wallace, Paul Wong, Cornelia Wyngaarden, and Andrea Fatona.

      The first major Canadian exhibition of photographs, collages, drawings, sculptures, and films by Tel Aviv-born, Los Angeles-based artist Elad Lassry is at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

      Bill Reid Creative Journeys at Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art celebrates the three phases of the artist's creative journey, Pre-Haida (1948-1951), Haida (1951-1968) and Beyond Haida (1968-1998).

      Persistence at the Vancouver Art Gallery draws together three recent contemporary installations by Canadian artists Julia Feyrer, Tamara Henderson, Shelagh Keeley, and Germaine Koh.

      Xi xanya dzam at Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art features traditional masks, carvings, baskets and moosehide, contemporary prints, sculptures and jewellery by Primrose Adams, Dempsey Bob, Rena Point Bolton, Mandy Brown, Joe David, Robert Davidson, Alvin Mack, Mary Michell, Earl Muldon, Susan Point, and Norman Tait.

      Twenty-five works by contemporary American photographer Stephen Shore complement the exhibition Claude Monet’s Secret Garden at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

       

      MUSEUMS

      In a Different Light: Reflecting on Northwest Coast Art at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC features more than 110 historical indigenous artworks and explores what we can learn from these works and how they relate to indigenous peoples’ relationships to their lands

      Traces of Words: Art and Calligraphy from Asia at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC examines the physical traces of words, both spoken and recorded, that are unique to humans.

      The Lost Fleet at the Vancouver Maritime Museum investigates the unjust 1941 seizure of 1,200 Japanese-Canadian fishing vessels following the bombing of Pearl Harbour through a collection of historic photographs, models of Japanese-Canadian-built fishing boats, fishermen’s tools, and replica documents.

      Amazonia: The Rights of Nature at at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC features Amazonian basketry, textiles, carvings, feather works, and ceramics both of everyday and of ceremonial use, representing indigenous, Maroon, and white settler communities.

       

      ATTRACTIONS

      The Capilano Suspension Bridge features seven suspended footbridges offering views 110 feet above the forest floor.

      Big Splash Waterpark in Tsawwassen, formerly Splashdown, features newly renovated pools and hot tubs, new slides such as Kamikaze and Solar Splash, a sports bar and grill, and complimentary shuttle service to and from downtown Vancouver.

      At the Bloedel Conservatory you can take in more than 200 free-flying exotic birds and 500 exotic plants and flowers.

      The 22-hectare VanDusen Botanical Garden features over 255,000 plants from around the world, a restaurant, a garden shop, and a horticulture library.

      Take a ride in an exterior glass elevator and get a 360° view of Metro Vancouver and the North Shore mountains at Vancouver Lookout.

      Edgewater Casino offers 24-hour gaming, over 60 table games, a poker room, a high-limit section, 500 slot machines, restaurants and lounges, and live entertainment, including concerts and televised UFC events.

      Lighthouse Park features 10 kilometres of hiking trails, picnic areas, guided walks provided by the Lighthouse Park Preservation Society, and the historical 1912 Point Atkinson Lighthouse.

      Science World features hundreds of interactive exhibits in five permanent galleries, live science demonstrations and workshops, and giant movies in the Omnimax Theatre.

      Soar from coast-to-coast across the Canadian landscape with a 25-minute ride featuring effects such as wind and scents at FlyOver Canada.

       

      MOVIES

      Vancity Theatre presents a screening of Hermia and Helena, in which a young woman's dedication to a new Spanish translation of A Midsummer Night's Dream is tested when she encounters a series of romantic distractions.

      The Cinematheque celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Monterey International Pop Festival with a new restoration of Monterey Pop, an essential record of a defining countercultural movement. 

      As part of Bell Media's Best of Hot Docs 2017, the Vancity Theatre presents a screening of La Chana.
