Victoria Pride parade 2017 to rainbow up the provincial capital on Sunday

      If you're going to be in the provincial capital or on Vancouver Island this weekend, or are looking for a rainbow-hued getaway, here are some Pride festivities to take note of.

      The Victoria Pride Society (VPS) has been holding their annual weeklong celebration since July 1, which will culiminate in their annual parade on Sunday (July 9).

      The Victoria Pride parade has a new start time at 11 a.m. It will start at Pandora Avenue and Government Street and wind its way to MacDonald Park at Oswego and Simcoe streets, where the Victoria Pride Festival will take place.

      The festival will feature a beer garden, a food court, two entertainment stages, vendors, and a kids' area.

      For those interested in arts and culture, there's also an official VPS event tomorrow (July 8) with some Vancouver names.

      The Pride in the Word literary event at the Ambrosia Conference Centre (638 Fisgard Street) will showcase numerous local literary talents, such as Ivan Coyote, Billeh Nickerson, Adèle Barclay, Robin Stevenson, Jillian Christmas, Brett Josef Grubisic, and beni xiao.

      There are also several community events.

      If you're looking to work it on the dancefloor, there's the Wicked Wench Pride Party, a dance party with DJs at the Victoria Events Centre starting at 8 p.m. tonight (July 7).

      If you want to watch some fierce teams duke it out tomorrow (July 8), there's the Eves of Destruction Pride Bout roller derby from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Archie Browning Sports Centre.
