Local morning show host poses as Bruno Mars in downtown Vancouver, surprisingly fooling many fans

Vancouverites strolling through the downtown core were in for a shock yesterday (July 25) when they spotted Bruno Mars roaming the streets with two bodyguards in tow—except it wasn't really Bruno Mars at all.

The snapback and floral shirt–sporting gentleman—who, for the record, is a few inches too tall to ever be mistaken for Bruno Mars—was actually CTV Morning Live Vancouver co-host Jason Pires. The television personality decided to dress up as the Grammy Award-winning crooner ahead of his sold-out shows at Rogers Arena tonight and tomorrow (July 26 and 27), surprisingly fooling many a passerby and Bruno fan.

CTV Morning Live released footage of "Mars" posing for selfies and being trailed by throngs of people as he walked down Robson Street. It's hilarious how earnest and genuinely excited many of them are about "meeting" the superstar.

"I was just walking down the street and I couldn't believe it," said one fan. "All of a sudden, he was there."

"I've come all the way from London to see this man tomorrow," said another before he wished "Mars" good luck at the concert. (Considering his accent, I'm pretty sure he's referring to London, U.K...which makes this even more awesome.)

Some began posting photos of Pires on social media, claiming to have come face-to-face with Mars. The Sportsbar Live! at Rogers Arena even reposted a fan's Instagram selfie, encouraging others to share images with the artist for a chance to win a $50 gift card. (They later added the word "imposter" to their post.)

A few people, however, weren't too happy with the stunt, with some netizens calling it a mean-spirited "trick". My feet are firmly planted in the "this is hilarious" camp, but let's just hope the participants weren't too disappointed once the segment was aired.

Plus, given Mars's—the real Mars's—previous gig as an Elvis Presley impersonator, perhaps it's all come full circle for the star?
