Adam Lambert shocks the American Music Awards

American Idol runner-up and recent Rolling Stone cover boy Adam Lambert caused a little Madonna-style outrage at the American Music Awards last night.

The openly gay singer made out with a male band member during a performance of his song "For Your Entertainment", which also featured simulated oral sex (man-on-man, with Lambert as the recipient).

An unapologetic Lambert claims the kiss between him and keyboardist Tommy Ratliff was not planned, but whether or not this was all just a calculated bid to get the fledgling pop star some attention, that's exactly what it's done. Twitter has been abuzz since last night, with Lambert as the number one trending topic, and as of this posting, he remains in the top 5 Google searches.

By a remarkable coincidence (yeah, right), Lambert's debut album, For Your Entertainment, comes out today.

Meanwhile, American Idol winner Kris Allen wonders if anyone even remembers who he is.

Although somewhat disappointed in the overall "sound" of the performance (but then again that seemed to be the trend throughout the night) Adam did what he set out to do and I am so glad he is not apologizing. Shocking...perhaps, but surprising...definitely not to those true Adam fans. This is only the beginning of what will truly be entertainment redefined. Way to go Adam.

Well it's good that sex was invented because otherwise some artists would have no basis for their music. If their sound was truly good, then they wouldn't have to resort to shock inducing tactics to get attention. I am as repulsed by this latest show of "anything goes" as I was with Britney, Madonna and Christina and the tongue groping I've seen between any male/female in a public venue. What happened to celebrities trying to be role models instead of attention seekers? What a disgrace, all of you.

Ditto for me Sarah. I'm no prude but I'm totally disgusted by the US pop music machine and all their plastic, manufactured "stars".... along with their cheesy antics.

KISS are a prime example of crappy pop stars masquerading as rock musicians.

Haha it's funny how mad everyones getting over this. Seriously, female performers have been doing this for years and nobody says anything about that. This was no worse than what anyone else did last night, and in my opinion, the performance of the night. I actually read a comment somewhere that says they now know why young children get kidnapped, raped, and murdered! Seriously?!?!? You are blowing this way out of pruportion. It's 2009! Wake Up! Nobody complains about the way that evey girl that performed last night was dressed. Stop bitching people and realize that he is the future of music and I support him for being true to himself. And anyone saying that it was innapropriate for children needs to realize that they shouldn`t be up at that time anyways. Get a life people and grow up! I love you Adam and you`re performanced rocked! You are the future!

A little over the top but heres the eqation: no talent + shocking people = 14 minutes and 59 seconds of fame. No one will remember his name by next years AMA's. As far as the gayness goes, if God created us all are you saying he made a mistake if its morally wrong? Also he created us in his image so...

Was pretty much the whole show feeling, um, the only word I can think of was "desperate" or was it just me? MOST (not all) of these people, including Adam Lambert, are WICKEDLY TALENTED and could stand there and sing with nothing else going on and blow an audience away! But then I'm a fan of simple elegance, subltety and the overpower of understatement.

I feel the idea behind his performance was to get people talking - which he did. Whenever an artist creates this type of banter - it is a good thing. So, with me posting comments - and I never do - Adam has accomplished his goal. I am a heterosexual female and I found the kiss between Madonna and Britney disgusting and somehow I heard people say it was a right of passage - so now Adam kisses a man and does a little crotch move and all of a sudden - we are all saints and wow - what is the world coming to. If you don't like it - turn the channel and read a book with your kids. Freedom of expression is why I live in Canada and who are you or I to judge people that want to kiss men and crotch grind. If you go to the bar on a Friday night - it's no different. Change the channel! BTW - anyone watch HBO after 1AM? LOL! Seriously - relax - everyone - reeeeeelaaaaaaax! ...oh wait - I get it - if it's not on TV - then it doesn't exist! What was I thinking? LOL! OK - I am leaving now and will go bury my head in the sand again.......LOL!

WHAT was he thinking?? French kissing a straight man and simulating oral sex on another is NOT talent. It's totally DISGUSTING. And yet he chooses to do this during his 1st public appearance trying to sing on stage, at the AMA's. Big! Big! mistake. And as if that's not enough, he thinks he can use Madonna & ??? as his excuse for doing what he did, WRONG. Not that I condone what M&B did, but they are way way out of his league. GET REAL (as Dr. Phil would say). In what world are you living???, absolutely without a doubt ridiculous. I'm really hoping and praying in short order nobody will even remember who Adam Lambert is, furthermore that his carreer goes down the toilet yesterday. This has all been brought on by you, Adam, and only have yourself to blame. Take responsibility for your own actions Lambert. Which by the way you're not doing by blaming parents and ABC, and whoever else that you choose, OR because you're gay and a man. What a joke, (double whammy) as you say LOL. Why is it when there's the least bit of controversy, the first thing they blame it on is their sexual preference, i.e. Perez Hilton. At times I agree that happens, but definitely not in this case. The ONLY way you'll save some of your credability is to sincerely apologize for what you did and said. I hope as you mature (grow up) you'll learn that every negative action has a consequesnce. I can't believe you don't know that already. Oh well, some learn faster than others. I would be really interesting to know what Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson thinks of you /your performance now.
