American guitar hero Joe Bonamassa headed back to Vancouver in April

Vancouver rock-guitar freaks have reason to rejoice as American fretmaster Joe Bonamassa has just announced that he'll be headed back here for a concert at the Orpheum on April 10, 2013.

Bonamassa was in Vancouver nine months ago for a gig at the same venue, and I interviewed him in advance of that show. I also blogged about how both of us weren't too impressed with Rolling Stone magazine's "fucked up" list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. That was fun to chat about.

This time around Bonamassa will be touring behind his 10th solo album, Driving Towards the Daylight, which was released last May. I was pleased to see that it includes a version of Jimmy Barnes' "Too Much Ain't Enough Love", which I remember from Barnes' 1988 album, Freight Train Heart.

Barnes--formerly of the Aussie band Cold Chisel--is one of the world's great unknown (outside of Down Under, anyway) rock singers. The 56-year-old really brings it on this new version, although having Bonamassa on guitar doesn't hurt matters much. (The two also raised quite a ruckus on the version of "Space Truckin' " that they recorded for the recent Deep Purple tribute album, Re-Machined.)
