Angry Asian American hits the bull's-eye
In the latest edition of Ricepaper, local comedian Tetsuro Shigematsu interviews Phil Yu, a prolific American blogger known as Angry Asian Man.
That article led me to check out Yu's website. It offers ample proof that we're not living in some sort of discrimination-free, postracial North American paradise.
Recent Yu posts such as "marion barry has a problem with filipino nurses", "racist chants at emory university volleyball game", food truck serves up lunch with a side of orientalist schtick", and "ashton kutcher's racist 'brownface' popchips ad" make this abundantly clear.
Ashton Kutcher came under fire for his "brownface" character in this ad.
Kudos to Shigematsu for making more people aware of Yu's blog.

Hey Charlie, Thanks for shining the spotlight on Angry Asian Man. Not to name drop, but I've met Phil Yu AKA Angry Asian Man, and you think his posts are cool? Well, I've personally witnessed him call bullshit to a Hollywood studio executive's face for the incipient racism in "The Hangover Part II" before its release. Angry Asian Man is the real deal. He walks the talk.

This video is rascist because AK portrays a South Asian man in addition to spoofs on three other characters? Give me a break

On the other hand, do we really need to see/read anything else about Ashton ... the female equivalent of a Kardashian?
I know that it's fun to make fun of useless humans, but maybe if we just stopped ... they would go "poof"?

Angry Asian man there are plenty of white racists still left in North America. But I would say the USA has more racists per capita than Canada.
Asians are still discriminated in North America but no one suffers more than South Asians (East Indians, Pakistanis, Nepalese etc basically from India, Arabs and Muslims in discrimination at least these days. Becasue of 9-11, media and Americas love affair with war, racial profiling etc.
That being said white racism and white supremacists, and the media still use overt racism against blacks, Latinos.
The big difference now is that many whites are finding other cultures cool, interesting and a whole lot of dating, cross marrying etc.
White racists and any type of racist are pretty much a thinking of the past. But as we saw in Norway a white racist can also be extremely dangerous.
Ashton who is of course Jewish should be a little more sensitive to racism but of course he picks easy targets like South Asians. Wonder if he would say the same thing if he saw a 6 foot 5 Canadian born Punjabi Sikh staring at him?

@Kiddy Magazine
Pot calling the kettle black?
I've read more racist bullshit coming from you than all commenters in the past few years combined.

Considering what Hong Kong Chinese think of Filipinos or any other `brown skinned Asians``, Mainland Chinese, other Asians, and everybody else, I think he should recalibrate some of his material.

Racism exists everywhere and from all sides. I'm white and live in Korea where I'm constantly referred to as a "waygook" (outsider) and if I wanted to, could write a lengthy blog about the racist treatment and stereotypical attitudes I encounter/witness on a regular basis. Asians are among the most racist people on the Earth. Ask any black person living in either China, Korea or Japan. People here still think black people are black because they don't wash...and they even say these inane comments out loud. One of my black co-workers once received whitening cream as a gift. WTF? Angry Asian man? Get a life. What country did your parents come from and ask yourself...how are immigrants or foreigners treated there? The door swings both ways dude.
