Art Wheelers bicycle public-art tours are back this summer
Last year saw the launch of Art Wheelers—guided bicycle tours of Vancouver public art—which had bike-happy city folk and tourists saddling up in large numbers.
Well, the artful blend of culture and cycling is back again this year, with tours kicking off June 20, and running to September 19.
Every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., rides will start at Spokes Bicycle Rentals on West Georgia and Denman, and go on to visit sites in Coal Harbour and the Olympic Village. Highlights will include stops at Rodney Graham’s Aerodynamic Forms in Space; Yue Minjun’s A-maze-ing Laughter; and Myfanwy MacLeod’s The Birds.
The tours the brainchild of Carol-Ann Ryan and Rosemary Marland Lennox, will be lead by the Evergreen Cultural Centre’s visual arts manager Astrid Heyerdahl and the Western Front’s exhibitions assistant Katie Lyle. They’re open to riders aged 12 and up, at $20 per person.
Art Wheelers is also offering free tours to 20 youth from the KidSafe Leadership Program, a summer program for Grade 6 and 7 students from vulnerable communities.
