Bacon jam makes it even easier for bacon lovers to eat bacon for breakfast

    1 of 1 2 of 1

We've heard of bacon-flavoured lube and even chocolate-bacon gelato.

Here's another one for lovers of cured pig meat: bacon jam.

What the hell is it? A mix of bacon, onions, and spices, according to its maker, Seattle's Skillet Street Food.

I suppose it's for those mornings when you omnivores don't have time to fry up some strips, but do have sliced bread and a toaster on hand.

Locally, bacon jam is being sold by the jar ($19.95) at Les Amis du Fromage (1752 West 2nd Avenue, 843 East Hastings Street) and Gourmet Warehouse (1340 East Hastings Street) in Vancouver and Well Seasoned (302c-20771 Langley Bypass) in Langley.

Before you chow down, however, you might want to take a gander at PETA's 15 Reasons Not to Eat Bacon. Or not.

I don't doubt their concoctions taste great, however this is actually an old idea as remember you could get jars of bacon & jam, or bacon, jam & peanut butter. Darn yummy & still LOVE my bacon strips on toast with jam. People's frown quickly turn smiles after trying a nibble albeit initially defiantly.

I remember the peanut butter/jam combo - loved it as a kid. (Do they still sell it?) I also loved peanut butter and pickle sandwiches, and Cheeze Whiz and pickle sandwiches. Thought of trying them again recently, and decided to leave the past in the past. But, I would try this. Sounds yummy!

Thanks Mr. Hui! Thanks daddy!! Thanks for putting in a link about PETA in a FOOD column.. if you are vegan, great! Leave that to your own personal beliefs, and don't force it on the rest of the sane population. Shame on you.

Hello Joe, I been eating basically vegan for well over 10 years but am not fanatic about it. Please do not try to force your eating habits on others. BTW every once in a blue moon I'll have a BLT, that is a toasted bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. Just live dangerous, sin a little and try it sometime, your Higher Authority will forgive you. You actually might become less self righteous.
