B.C. author Brian Brett wins 2012 Lieutenant Governor’s award

B.C. author Brian Brett has been named as the recipient of the 2012 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence.

In a news release today (April 25), the West Coast Book Prize Society announced Brett has won the $5,000 prize.

Born in Vancouver and now a resident of Salt Spring Island, Brett is an award-winning author of fiction, poetry, and memoir.

His résumé also includes work as a journalist, a creative-writing teacher, and an advocate for writers and the publishing industry.

The jury for the ninth annual Lieutenant Governor’s award included poet George Bowering, writer Max Wyman, and publisher Evelyn Gillespie.

Lt.-Gov. Steven Point is to present the award to Brett during the B.C. Book Prizes Gala at SFU Woodward's Goldcorp Centre for the Arts in Vancouver on May 12.
