Beatles-related events mark the 30th anniversary of John Lennon's death

Every year on December 8, we’re forced to make the distinction between Vladimir Lenin and John Lennon. It’s hard to remember which one had the revolutionary Marxist moustache and which one was too high to be in a revolution . We’re pretty sure it’s the one with glasses who got shot today, and almost as a reminder of his deathiversary, several Beatles-related events occured this week.

To start, Heather Mills, Paul McCartney’s ex, told the Daily Mail that she is responsible for the Beatles iTunes deal. Seriously, it’s Lennon’s day—show a little class. If we have to listen to her money-grubbing mouth for much longer we’ll club a baby seal.

Luckily Yoko Ono brought us back to business with a touching blog post on her man: “They say teenagers laugh with a drop of a hat. But nowadays I see many teenagers angry and sad at each other. John and I were hardly teenagers. But my memory of us is that we were a couple who laughed.”

Maybe she wasn’t the black widow band-wrecker that we all thought she was.

The last and most memorable message that we found came in the form of a Lemmy video interview on NME’s website. It’s hard to decipher exactly what Motí¶rhead’s frontman is mumbling on about, but it seems like his speed-addled speech is about how Lennon was the “asshole of the band” and that he wasn’t the “peace loving guy that you’ve read about”.

Lemmy goes on to add, “We believed we could make the world better and we’ve failed because the world is so full of shit.”

With that wonderful message, our music section would like to wish Lennon a happy deathday. He may not have been as cool as Lenin, but damnit, we couldn’t imagine a world without his drug-induced music. Props dude.
