A young black bear tranquilized by conservation officers in downtown Vancouver was released into the wild today (December 13).

The male bear created a spectacle in downtown Vancouver yesterday afternoon when it was spotted perched on a garbage truck.

Conservation officers arrived at scene near Cambie and West Georgia and tranquilized the bear.

The captured bear was transported to a compound in North Vancouver before being let go this afternoon in the Upper Squamish Valley, the B.C. Ministry of Environment announced.

It's too bad that most of these relocated bears either (1) are eaten by other bears or (2) become repeat offenders and eventually killed. We feel all 'warm and fuzzy' about releasing them, but they don't stand a chance.
Want a lasting solution? Start enforcing tougher garbage disposal laws so that garbage bears aren't created in the first place.
