Brent Hayden shows off his bronze medal

Mission's Brent Hayden has a black belt in karate, Canadian records in the 200-metre, 100-metre, and 50-metre freestyle swimming events, and a bucket of awards, including B.C. athlete of the year, Canadian athlete of the year, and Canadian swimmer of the year.

The mayor of his hometown even named a day after Hayden in 2007.

And now, he can add an Olympic bronze medal to the list after coming third in the 100-metre freestyle event.

It was a long time coming for Hayden, a former UBC student who is considered by many to be this country's best competitive swimmer.
