Cactus Clubs are landing all over Vancouver
Down by the new Vancouver Convention Centre the other day, I peered in the windows of the ginormous Cactus Club Café being built. Like the one going in at English Bay, this location has some primo views: walls of windows on at least two sides look out onto the water and the Olympic cauldron. It stretches the length of Jack Poole plaza under what used to be the viewing platform for the flame. The restaurant will undoubtedly be a magnet for tourists.
Both locations, according to the Cactus website, are slated to open this winter (and there’s a hiring fair next week for the English Bay one from August 25 to 27.) There’s also another Cactus opening soon in Abbotsford, which looks similarly grand.
Cactus Club already boasts chef Rob Feenie, and has stepped up its wine program this month by hiring sommelier Sebastien Le Goff (ex db bistro moderne and Uva Wine Bar/Cibo Trattoria)
So will Vancouver support all these Cacti? The Coal Harbour Cactus is a short walk away from the two-storey mothership at Bental 5. What do you think?

are there enough drug dealers and grow-op operators to patronize these restaurants since Vancouver isn't creating many new jobs these days
