Canada's post-production industry posts profit margin increase for 2007
Amidst all the doom and gloom of the current economic state, the Canadian post-production industry (for film, TV, and video) reported an increase in 2007 profit margins by decreasing total operating expenses, according to Statistics Canada.
While the total operating revenues were the same for 2006 and 2007 ($820 million), profit margins rose from 6.5 to 8.4 percent because total operating expenses decreased by 2.2 percent to $752 million.
British Columbia companies, which accounted for 11.1 percent of the total operating revenues (Ontario companies accounted for 47.8 percent and Quebec companies for 39.4 percent), did post an operating loss of 2.2 percent.
The post-production industry covers services such as animation, special effects, computer graphics, editing, subtitling, and more.
