Canucks' Manny Malhotra to participate in Vancouver Pride Parade

It's not the Stanley Cup parade the Vancouver Canucks so desperately want to be part of, but the city's hockey team will be represented in Sunday's Pride Parade. Veteran forward Manny Malhotra will take part in the annual Denman Street celebration. Malhotra will be joined by Patrick Burke, son of Toronto Maple Leafs—and former Canucks—general manager Brian Burke.

Patrick's brother and Brian's son Brendan, who was killed in an auto accident in 2010, was one of the few openly gay members of the hockey community. Since Brendan's death, Patrick has founded You Can Play, an organization dedicated to eliminating homophobia in sports. You Can Play has been supported by a number of National Hockey League players including Canucks players Malhotra, Ryan Kesler, and Daniel and Henrik Sedin.

Malhotra and Burke will march in the Pride Parade along with the Vancouver Cutting Edges, the only gay hockey club in Western Canada.

Canucks mascot Fin will also take part in Sunday's celebration.
