CBC lands broadcast rights for 2014 and 2016 Olympic Games

The Olympic Games are headed back to CBC. For 60 years and 19 games, the national broadcaster was the home of Olympic coverage in this country, and that will be the case once again starting with the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, in 2014, and again two years later when the Summer Games are held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The London Olympics are being shown on a variety of channels and platforms as part of a Bell Media/Rogers consortium. The same group delivered the 2010 Vancouver Games to the homes of millions.

But the International Olympic Committee announced this morning that CBC/Radio Canada had won the opportunity to broadcast the next two Games. There is no word yet on the price the public broadcaster paid to regain the broadcast rights.
