City of Vancouver posts hagiographical video of Jim Green on its YouTube channel

I upset a few people over the weekend when I wrote a commentary called "Vision Vancouver's efforts to deify Jim Green are a tad unsavoury".

It turns out that it's not just Vision Vancouver that's deifying Green. The City of Vancouver is featuring an emotionally charged, hagiographical video remembering Green on its YouTube channel.

If you pay close attention at 1:19 of the video, you'll see the Vision Vancouver logo prominently displayed on a campaign button for Green, who was elected to council and once ran for mayor with the Coalition of Progressive Electors.

Here's the full video as it appears on YouTube:

You won't see any COPE logos in this video, nor any mention of slot machines.

A touching video for a considerate, big hearted, burly guy, who spoke up for people in need and reminded us of what an exceptional Vancouverite is really about. These kind of people don't come along every day.

Heart of the matter
Mr Heart you're entitled to your opinions, but Jim Green was far from simply a person 'who spoke up for people in need'. In fact, for the last 15 - 20 years of his life, Green was a lobbyist for real estate developers and a practiced player in the dark arts of the smoky political back room. That's not to say he did not also do some good work. But, please spare the 'lives of the saints' routine.
