The historic Salt Building in False Creek’s Olympic Village is set to become a beer emporium. According to a news release, CRAFT Beer Market Restaurant + Bar will open in the space next summer, and it promises to carry “Canada’s largest selection of draft beer” with over 140 taps.

CRAFT Beer Market is based in Calgary with one restaurant in that city and another in Edmonton. The casual chain emphasizes locally-sourced ingredients for its comfort-food and pub dishes, such as burgers, pastas, and flatbreads. Its signature menu items are beer-can chicken and an appetizer of “fast-food sushi”, which the menu describes as “cheeseburger and fries wrapped in bacon and presented sushi style”.

The Vancouver restaurant will seat 350, with a mezzanine for special events and an open kitchen. The release states that the beer selection will range from classic lagers to new beers from local microbreweries.

The restaurant is previewing its concept next Saturday (October 27) with an open house for the community at the Salt Building (85 West 1st Avenue) from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The family-friendly event will include food and beverage samples and a tour of the building.

Beer hounds rejoice. As corporate as this seems,if a new establishment, offering many beers from varied countries, finally establishes itself locally,I'm all for that. The Taphouse in Seattle and the Yardhouse in San Diego are fashioned from the same concept and I have enjoyed them both.....but,don't get me wrong,I'll still prefer the waterholes that I've frequented for years and will continue to do so.

If it's in the vein of Yardhouse then I'm interested. More options is a good thing!
