Dick Cheney sells out dinner event in Vancouver

Even a "mass murderer", as one Vancouver lawyer has described him, can sell out a dinner.

That's right. Vancouver's Bon Mot Book Club says its Dick Cheney speaking event is full.

However, an email sent out today (September 19) by club organizer Leah Costello noted eight tickets had been "released" and were available for the taking. The price of admission? $500.

Cheney is coming to the Vancouver Club (915 West Hastings Street) next Monday (September 26) to promote his book In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir. The event gets underway at 6 p.m.

Gail Davidson, cofounder of the group Lawyers Against the War, has called on the Canadian government to either keep the former U.S. vice president out of the country or to arrest and prosecute him for crimes against humanity.

Meanwhile, local antiwar activists are planning to give Cheney "the welcome he deserves". The StopWar Coalition is calling for a protest starting at 5:30 p.m. outside the event at the Vancouver Club.

Remember when our colleague and friend Marc Emery hassled John Walters. Walters payed a visit to our friend and we all know where he is now. Everyone who is protesting better make sure they cannot be identified. Never can tell what evil lurks beneath.

As a curious aside, Michael Moore, who is not Cheney's biggest fan, was in town last night.Hetold HiIS sold-out crowd (at an accessible $21 a ticket including HST) that he and Cheney were nearly neck and neck for book sales. according to the NY Times best sellers list. Given Moore's book was just launched last week and Cheney's has been out for awhile, let's hope this bodes well for 2012! Wonder why Cheney's event hasn't sold out?Hmm...

This so called sick example of a man is a coward. While elegible for the draft to go to Viet Nam he avoided it, not once, six times. Then he has the balls to send troops over to Iraqe to protect the oil fields. What a piss poor example this book club is and it's owners. How do you look yourselves in the mirror in the morning? Oh yeah, it's a rose coloured mirror!

Bon Mot usually has sponsors for each event.

I suggest finding out who some of the sponsors are for the event and letting them know how you feel about Bon Mot.

If the Hotel is a sponsor, guess who will be staying over night!

hen Canada signed on to the world court we agreed to arrest war criminal fugitives.Cheney has freely admitted to torture and aiding and abetting two aggressive wars (a capital offence). The only reason not to arrest him would be fear of illegal reprisals from the USA. WE ARE LEGALLY REQUIRED TO ARREST CHENEY. Seriously, do you think Obama would risk war to protect Cheney? Even if Cheney spent a night in jail before Harper sprung him, it would rattle him and keep him from defiling Canada with his presence in future.

Why such whining, low class vitriol and hate?
We should be proud of our free speech and welcome such a renown visitor, even if you disagree with him.
It's called free enterprise tourism and it's economically healthy.
Sounds like some of you would rather welcome Machmud Amadinijad and his band of sharia law assassins?
Who cares if free people spend their own after tax dollars on their own free choice? If you don't like it, you are free to not attend.
We have to learn to appreciate and protect our freedoms more.

Cheney was a high ranking soldier in the Bush Crime family, a criminal of the worst sort and should be treated as such. He shouldn't be selling out theaters, he should be in an orange jump suit geting romamnced by Bubba.
