Does B.C. Conservative MLA John van Dongen hate families?

Today (May 28), Premier Christy Clark revealed that the new statutory holiday, Family Day, will take place on the second Monday in all Februarys for the rest of time.

While the majority of us are thrilled about the creation of a much-needed respite in what is truly the worst of all months, this announcement just isn't good enough for B.C. Conservative MLA John van Dongen.

Why? Because Family Day doesn't create jobs.

"This announcement will not create a single new job," van Dongen said in a media release today (May 28). "In fact, it will likely cost some jobs in the private sector."

Mr. van Dongen, while I know you have no love of Premier Clark, I imagine you do have a family, some members of which you might actually like spending time with. This new holiday isn't about taking money out of people's pockets; it's about allowing citizens to take a day off and spend it with people they love. Or, for the social agoraphobes, sitting alone at home blissfully enjoying a day in which they don't have to talk to a single person.

And, this may come as a shock to you, but not everyone considers money to be the only way to bring joy into our lives.

In the future, announcements about province-wide stat holidays should be greeted with a "This is a good thing for my quality of life" instead of fearmongering statements that make you look anti-family. You don't hate families do you, Mr. van Dongen?

With the economy still weak why add another fuckin holiday that just costs business more money and does zero for working people? Announce some good economic news. I am with van Dongen.

"...truly the worst of all months"
Huh?
Miranda might want to check if she still has a pulse.

" And, this may come as a shock to you, but not everyone considers money to be the only way to bring joy into our lives."
Somebody might want to check that Miranda even has a heart if money is the only issue that comes to her mind.

"Quality of life" lol..please remember that next time you look in a mirror.

bdubblut, I think February is a horrible month; doesn't mean I'm the walking dead. I'm happy we're getting a day off and I plan to spend that day enjoying myself and forgetting how horrible I think February is.

And I'm not making this about money; John van Dongen is.

Van Dongen is a classic Socred/Conservative. Like Scrooge, he would whine about employees being given a day off for Christmas ("picking a man's pocket every 25th of December!").

But I guess we need to remember that Dongle-puss and his dimwitted leader Cummins are accustomed to the Valley lifestyle, where field workers do as they're told, when they're told to do it. Just as they did in the slave states, all those years ago.

Day off? No massa, I don' need no day off massa. Thank ya, massa. Lemme spit shine them boots for ya, massa.

The way I see it, holidays are good for business. Sure they have to pay their staff extra for the stat but then there are more people out and about spending money rather than slaving away mindlessly at their cubicles.
