Dong-flapping Randy Travis arrested for allegedly driving while drunk

As much as it’s hard to give a shit about his music, it’s impossible not to have an epic amount of respect for the way Randy Travis conducts his personal life. Most country singers just sing about being drunken rebel outlaws.

Travis, on the other hand totally walks the walk. No less than perma-soused Hank Williams would be impressed by his latest run-in with the law, which would make a damn fine country song if it wasn’t for the fact that the 53-year-old was in his birthday suit at the time. Sadly, steel-pedal ballads about dudes running around in the nude while allegedly stinking drunk don’t play well on country radio, especially in the American Midwest.

The platinum-selling, Grammy-winning country singer was arrested in Grayson County in North Texas just after 11 p.m. last night. Police were called when a man was spotted lying on the road in Toiga, where Travis resides. It was reported that a damaged Trans Am owned by the singer has taken out a number of construction barriers on the road.

Travis, who was naked, was reportedly combative with state troopers, refusing to take sobriety tests.

The Texas sheriff’s office later reported the following: “Travis had a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath and several signs of intoxication. While Travis was being transported, Travis made threats to shoot and kill the troopers working the case.”

The veteran singer, who has scored 16 number one country singles, was released on a bond, and faces charges of retaliation or obstruction as well as driving while impaired.

Troopers issued a mug shot showing the country icon looking like he’d just gone 14 rounds with Jack Daniel’s in a cage match.

Travis left the jail in blue scrubs, and a baseball cap, which, admittedly was better than strutting across the parking lot with his dong flapping in the wind.

The past couple of years haven't exactly been banner ones for the Texas native. In 2010 he divorced Elizabeth Travis, his wife of nearly 20 years. After initially retaining her as his manager, a position she held for three decades, things turned ugly. Elizabeth filed a lawsuit earlier this year claiming that the star was preventing her from doing her job, and that he let her go from her duties with no notice.

In return, Travis filed a counter-claim alleging that his ex-wife was leaking confidential information about him, this proving damaging to his career.

This isn't the first time the country crooner has been hauled into jail for being blotto in public. Earlier this year, he was cited for public intoxication, as seen in the video below. At least that time he showed some respect for the women and children by keeping his clothes on.
