F Cancer bracelets say "fuck you" in such a fashionable way
You can't argue with the sentiment: fuck cancer!
It's a little more in-your-face than a pink ribbon, and inspired local jewellery designer and cancer survivor Susan Fiedler has expressed the idea in such a, well, fucking cool way.
Her F Cancer cuff bracelets have already raised an unbelievable $100,000 for Vancouver's InspireHealth (a not-for-profit integrative cancer-care clinic). And it's easy to see why: the message is scrawled effectively between the heart-monitor blips that cut across the top of her metal bands. On the inside, though, is the spirit of hope: it reads, Embrace Life.
Until now, the bracelets have come in sterling silver. But, just in time for Cancer Awareness Month, Fiedler has launched copper cuffs at half the price.
Silver versions sell for $150 to $210, depending on size; copper renditions are $75 to $105. About $25 from each bracelet goes toward the clinic, which is expanding throughout the province. They're on sale here.
Style fans might remember Fiedler's name from her popular Soul Flower line, which used to grace the wrists and necks of musical acts like Sarah McLachlan, Queens of the Stone Age, and Michael Franti. Fiedler was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2007, and after beating it and receiving treatment at InspireHealth, she created the first F Cancer fundraising bracelets.
