Filip Peliwo of North Vancouver wins boys title at Wimbledon

The Lower Mainland is home to a tennis champion at Wimbledon.

Filip Peliwo, 18, defeated Australian Luke Saville in straight sets to capture the boys' trophy.

He disposed of his opponent 7-5 and 6-4 and follows Canadian victories in the girls' singles and girls' doubles.

So does that mean Canada is on the verge of becoming a tennis powerhouse in the years to come?

Peliwo made the finals in the Junior Australian Open and the Junior French Open, before falling short.

After winning at Wimbledon, he gave credit to the Eugenie Bouchard's win in the singles, telling Canadian Press that it made him that much more hungry to succeed.

In the mens championship, Roger Federer defeated Andy Murray in a close match, losing the first set 4-6, but taking the next three 7-5, 6-3, and 6-4. This is Federer's seventh Wimbledon trophy and his first Grand Slam in more than two years.
