Filmmaker Uwe Boll responds to post on Wally Oppal cameo in Bailout

Yesterday (May 2), I blogged about missing women commissioner Wally Oppal making a cameo in Uwe Boll’s upcoming movie Bailout.

Last night, I received the following email from the producer-director himself:

dear steven ...it is to bad that you just read shit on google about me instead of watching the movies i did the last few years ...like DARFUR, RAMPAGE, STOIC, AUSCHWITZ .....the days of HOUSE OF THE DEAD are over best uwe

The filmmaker obviously didn't appreciate my comment that Bailout is sure to be as critically acclaimed as his films BloodRayne and House of the Dead.

You should totally challenge him to a boxing match. Uwe "Raging" Boll vs Stephen "Hui-man" Hui. I'd pay to see that.

Sweet! yeah his movie Rampage was dope! A must see. The teenagers love it. A new era for Uwe Boll!

I only know of bad Boll by reputation, the only movie I saw of his was "Darfur" and it was actually really interesting. A war movie set in a hellhole village. You had Good vs. Evil, suspense, stealth, heroes finding their courage, tragic loss, hard-won lessons.

Shaky-cam was bothersome in spots, and there was a bit of blubbering and summing-up dialogue at the end that we did not need to hear since we just *saw* how far sideways things can get in a war zone, but overall, a good movie.

I'm presently screening Bailout and it's quite good - maybe a bit unsubtle, but effective, with some great supporting actors (I like Keith David in pretty much everything I see him in; Michael Pare and Edward Furlong do decent work too; and it actually has one of the better John Heard performances... maybe not quite Cutter's Way, but definitely a cut above CHUD ("what ugly fuckers?" Actually, I kinda love CHUD).

Also: Boll's Rampage is also really good, if highly misanthropic. Darfur was less engaging for me, personally, but it's definitely competently made, and its heart seems to be in the right place. The days of House of the Dead do indeed seem to be over...
