Tourists and locals flocking to Granville Island's French bakery will find it closed for an "unknown duration". A fire last night (October 24) caused much damage to La Baguette & l'Échalote (1680 Johnston Street), according to Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services.

The fire department says the blaze started in the oven and was an accident. Firefighters arrived on scene at 7:55 p.m. No one was hurt in the fire.

La Baguette calls itself "Vancouver's first authentic French bakery". Established in 1982, the bakery bakes bread, croissants, pastries, tarts, cookies, cakes, and more.
