Five Earth Day events for your enjoyment in Metro Vancouver

Happy Earth Day. Yes, today (April 22) is the day when people around the world take some time to focus on the state of the planet and in many cases, actually take action to help it heal.

Here is a list of a  five activities taking place across Metro Vancouver today. Feel free to add any more in the comment space below.

The Garden City Lands Coalition is hosting a tour of the Garden City Lands, which are bounded by Westminster Highway, Alderbridge Way, No. 4 Road, and Garden City Road. It starts at 6 p.m. Members of the coalition have worked tirelessly to preserve the 136-acre parcel of land in central Richmond for agriculture.

There’s an Earth Day Fair at Queen Elizabeth secondary school from noon to 3 p.m. The school's address is 9457 136th Street.

Liberation B.C. is holding a meat-free Earth Day at the Vancouver Art Gallery from noon to 2 p.m. Participating organizations will be giving away free vegan food.

On The Rise Artist Collective (2231 Granville Street) starts a five-day exhibition of art works examining climate change beginning at 5 p.m. today. See the works of 14 artists in an exhibit entitled I’m Fine, You’re Fine.

The City of Coquitlam is hosting an Earth Day planting at Scott Creek on Eagleridge Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers can help widen the vegetated area in the park, which will improve habitat for salmon and wildlife.
