Folk Fest: Justin Townes Earle brings country and blues to the main stage

Justin Townes Earle brought out a combination of country, rock and blues tunes during a main stage set at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival today.

Townes Earle opened the performance with a traditional song called "John Henry", and played tracks off his new album, Harlem River Blues.

Dressed in a grey suit jacket, blue shirt and tie, the Nashville-born musician told the crowd about his home in New York, and about his background playing in "travelling bands".

Backed by a stand-up bass player for most of the performance, Townes Earle closed with a solo acoustic rendition of his song "Wanderin", which makes reference to growing up with a travelling father. (Townes Earle is the son of country musician Steve Earle).
